Two in race for Pondy CM's post

Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee chief V Narayanasamy and former chief minister V Vaithilingam are among the front-runners for the chief minister's post, an issue which has been left for Congress president Sonia Gandhi to decide.

The name of the new chief minister is expected to be announced on Friday night.

A panel of names from among the newly elected MLAs and allies, had been sent to the party high command for approval.

AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior leader Motilal Vora had called on Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Moopanar at the latter's residence in Madras on Friday to discuss the issue.

Asked about the delay in naming the candidate for the top post, Azad said, "It is not taking long. The new chief minister will be named on Friday night. We started the process on Thursday. The life of the assembly is up to June 9."
