Protests in North East over priests' killing

Catholic missionary schools across the North Eastern states on Friday remained closed and students marched through the streets protesting the recent killing of three priests in Manipur.

In Shillong, a huge procession was brought out by school students and citizens from all walks of life and was attended among others by Meghalaya Chief Minister E K Mawlong.

Speakers condemned the killing of the priests and urged the state governments in the region to ensure the safety of Christians.

Reports of protest meetings also came from Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

Members of the Indian Catholic Press Association in Guwahati have condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the culprits.

Suspected militants shot dead the three priests at a seminary in Manipur's Thoubal district on Tuesday.
