PM apprises President of crisis

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday held a 45-minute meeting with President K R Narayanan at Rashtrapati Bhavan to apprise him of the latest developments arising out of the expose of corruption in fictitious defence deals.

After the meeting, Vajpayee left without talking to waiting news-persons.

Vajpayee's meeting with Narayanan assumes significance in the light of withdrawal of support by Trinamul Congress to the NDA government.

The meeting was sought at the behest of Vajpayee in the morning to inform the President about the developments, official sources said.
