Shah, Rizvi's custody extended till March 9

Film producer, Nasim Rizvi, his assistant, Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh and financier Bharat Shah were Friday remanded to judicial custody till March 9 in a case of alleged nexus with the underworld even as police informed a special court that it would file charge-sheet that day.

In a related development, the court ordered the police to return the Honda car of Rizvi, producer of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, on certain conditions. The vehicle was seized after Rizvi was arrested on December 13 last year.

Hearing Rizvi's plea for return of the car, designated judge A P Bhangale ordered the police to hand over the vehicle to his wife, Nahid, after public prosecutor Rohini Salian submitted that the state had no objection.

The court, however, directed Rizvi's wife to give an undertaking assuring that she will not transfer or hand over the vehicle to anyone during the pendency of this case. Defence lawyer, Sayaji Nangare, assured that Rizvi's wife would execute the bond.

Earlier, the prosecutor urged for the judicial custody of all the three accused on the ground that investigation was in progress. She also said compelling grounds had been made out in the crime reports to interrogate witnesses.

Shah's counsel Shiraz Rahimtoola opposed the remand of his client saying that he was being tried by the media. He urged the court to reject the remand application and pass consequential orders.
