The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday suggested two modifications to the Nagaland ceasefire agreement to allay the apprehensions of the people of Manipur and other north-eastern states.
BJP national secretary Padmanabha Acharya, party in-charge for the Northeast, said the BJP suggested inclusion of clauses clearly stating that extension of the ceasefire to states adjoining Nagaland would not affect their territorial integrity and the Ground Rules Monitoring Committee should include people from social and political organisations.
Acharya said though Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Home Minister L K Advani as also National Socialistist Council of Nagalim (I-M) representative Isaac Muivah concurred with this view, it was essential to put it down on paper.
Acharya said Advani assured him that the suggestion would be incorporated in the peace accord.
