12 associates join Dara in hunger strike

Twelve associates of Dara Singh, prime accused in the Graham Staines murder case, have joined him in a hunger strike demanding a ceiling fan and protesting substandard conditions in a jail in Bhunaneswar, official sources said Saturday.

The indefinite fast by Dara, demanding a fan in his cell at the Baripada circle jail in Orrisa's Mayurbhanj district, entered the fifth day.

The jail doctor after a routine check-up said Dara's condition was stable. He was being administered glucose water since Friday and was also given coconut water Saturday morning, a report from Baripada said,

Dara's accomplices joined the fast Friday protesting against substandard food and inhuman living conditions and have also demanded fans in their cells, the sources said.

Like Dara, they have also sent a letter to the district collector, Khurda, in this regard.
