Protests against Naga truce extension continue in Manipur

Defying prohibitory orders thousands of people on Tuesday held sit-in protests, hoisted black flags and took out rallies across Manipur demanding immediate withdrawal of the Centre-National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M) ceasefire extension to the state amid tight security deployment.

Rallies were reported from Khura Chairenthong, Thoubal Leishangthem, Mayanglangjing, Nongpok Sekmai in Manipur valley, while thousands of protestors poured out into the streets at Khurai, Nagamapal, Lamphel, Yumnam Leikai, Charangpat, Thoubal Haokha and others, official sources said.

The sources said black flags were hoisted in several villages including Kabui Naga village of Keikhu in Imphal East district. No one was picked up for violating prohibitory orders and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state, they added.
