Unmoved by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's promise to review Centre's ceasefire agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M), the United Committee of Manipur on Monday threatened to intensify its agitation and sought total withdrawal of the ceasefire.
"There is no question of calling off of the agitation till the withdrawal of the ceasefire," a UCM spokesman said.
Meanwhile, thousands of protestors marched through the streets of Imphal on Monday morning amidst heavy security.
The protestors, many of them non-Manipuris, carried placards with messages like 'we want withdrawal of ceasefire not review.'
Shops, markets, business establishments and entertainment houses remained closed in Khwairamband market complex in the capital.
Army and para-military forces have stepped up patrolling in sensitive areas, state officials said.
