Militants storm Manipur speaker's house

Suspected militants stormed the residence of Manipur speaker Dr Dhananjoy Singh at Okram Chuthek in Thongju constituency on Sunday night.

The gunmen fired several rounds. However, no one was injured in the attack.

Police said about 20 gunmen came to the speaker's residence at about 2145 hrs. While some of them took guard at the gate, others entered the house and opened fire.

Singh is in New Delhi in connection with the controversy surrounding the extension of the Naga ceasefire to Manipur.

In another incident, about 15 gunmen ransacked the residence of legislator M Oken Singh at Heirok under Thoubal district on Saturday night. Singh also is in Delhi.
