DGMO calls for early meeting

The Indian Director General of Military Operations Lieutenant General G S Sihota on Monday contacted his Pakistani counterpart urging him to set up an early meeting to discuss the military situation along the Line of Control and Siachen glacier.

"The DGMO had telephonic contact with Lieutenant General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani requesting for an early date to meet him as per the directions of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee," an army spokesman said.

The Pakistani DGMO told General Sihota that he would get in touch with him soon on the request for an early military-to-military contact between the two countries.

Though both the countries were tightlipped about the meeting schedule, highly placed defence sources said New Delhi was pinning for a meeting on Wednesday and awaiting Islamabad's reply.

Earlier, reports had said Lt Gen Sihota would be visiting Islamabad on Tuesday.

However, a Pakistan military spokesman said his government was not aware of the visit.
