Bangalore hit by mild tremors, 4.3 on Richter Scale

Bangalore and several other parts of Karnataka were rocked by mild tremors on Monday morning.

The earthquake of slight intensity, measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale, had its epicentre about 35 km south of Bangalore. Meterological Centre Director Dr A L Koppar said the tremors measured 4.3 on the Richter Scale as recorded by the met office in Delhi at 0808 hrs. Bangalore has no instrument to record any seismic activity.

The tremors, which occurred around 0810 hrs, lasted for around 30 seconds.

Panic-stricken people rushed into the open seeing their windowpanes rattle. Police and Fire Brigade control sources said they were flooded with calls from panic-stricken people who reported tremors, saying they had a 'rattling experience'.

The calls came from J P nagar, Basavanagudi, Adugodi, Yelahanka, Rajajinagar, Vidyaranyapura, Indiranagar, Vijayanagar and R T Nagar and some other localities, the police said.
