Plan to trigger blasts on R-Day foiled: PTI

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday foiled militants' plan to trigger blasts on Republic Day, seizing a big cache of explosives and ammunition, including 50 kg of RDX from a hideout in south Kashmir, an official spokesman said in Srinagar.

In a joint operation, the Army, Border Security Forces and Jammu and Kashmir police recovered 50 kg of RDX, 26 anti-personnel mines, 105 grenades, an under-barrel grenade launcher, 10,025 rounds of AK ammunition, 18 improvised explosive device cylinders, 50 electric detonators and a pistol, at Buchoo Trai, 40 km from Srinagar, the spokesman said.

The police also recovered four kg of RDX, two grenades and an improvised explosive device hidden under a two-wheeler abandoned at Safakadal in downtown Srinagar early on Thursday, the spokesman said.

In another operation, the spokesman said, the BSF's 14th battalion smashed a militant hideout at Awatkul in Trehgam, in the frontier district of Kupwara on Wednesday night and recovered two anti-personal mines, two fuses, two remote control devices, eight time pencils, a hand grenade, six magazines with 140 rounds of AK ammunition and eight tubes of explosives.
