Militants fire grenades at
police station in Srinagar

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Militants fired three rifle grenades at a heavily guarded police station at Soura in downtown Srinagar on Wednesday morning.

The police, however, said the grenades exploded in an adjacent area, without causing damage.

The police and Central Reserve Police Force guards retaliated and fired in the direction from where the grenades came. However, no one was injured in the exchange.

Senior police officers have gone to Saura.
