Swiss police to help in porn probe: Reuters

A Swiss police team is expected to visit India soon to help the authorities in a child pornography investigation following the arrest of a Swiss couple on suspicion of sex offences involving minors, police said on Thursday.

"The police will be in New Delhi to look into the case," a police officer told Reuters in Bombay. He gave no date for their arrival, but said it would be shortly.

The police identified the couple, based on passport information, as Wilhelm Albin Marti, 59, and his wife Lotsher Lily Marie Marti, 56.

They were arrested in Bombay in mid-December under provisions of the penal code relating to kidnapping and procuring minor girls for sexual fulfilment, and pornography, police said.

Their lawyer has said they are innocent.

The police have two months to file charges.

A court rejected on Wednesday an appeal for bail by the couple, who were remanded to jail custody till January 22.

"They (Swiss police) mentioned about coming to India for this case," acting Swiss Consul General Urs Wuest said, adding that the Swiss police were also pursuing inquiries in Switzerland.

Senior police inspector Shirish Inamdar said the police had asked Interpol to investigate whether the case had international links.
