Bombay court issues warrant
for custody of Gulshan killer

Bombay police on Wednesday obtained a warrant from a local court to seek the custody of Abdul Rauf Daud Merchant, alleged killer of audio king Gulshan Kumar, who was nabbed in Calcutta on Tuesday.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Usha Iyer issued the warrant making it returnable on January 20.

Investigating officer in the Gulshan Kumar case Arun Bagadi and two other officers have been authorised to bring the accused from the custody of Calcutta police and produce him before the court to stand trial in Gulshan Kumar murder case.

Merchant, alleged member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, was arrested from a hotel where he was staying with his wife. He was produced before a Calcutta court, which remanded him to police custody till January 20.

Merchant has allegedly confessed that Dawood Ibrahim's lieutenant Chhota Shakeel had paid him Rs 100,000 to execute the murder of Gulshan Kumar.

After committing the crime, he had allegedly escaped to Dubai and later shifted his base to Calcutta.
