Prasada suffering from brain haemorrhage

Congress leader Jitendra Prasada, who was admitted to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday morning following brain haemorrhage, is in deep coma and his condition is said to be critical.

According to Dr Vinay Sheel of the hospital, Prasada underwent a CT scan immediately on admission, which threw up the diagnosis of the haemorrhage.

He was then taken to the Operation Theatre where the fluid cavities in the brain were operated, for releasing the blood and decreasing the pressure on the brain. A team of neurosurgeons, including associate Dr Amitabh Goel, attended on him. Later, answering questions, Dr Sheel said Prasada was basically quiet healthy and there was no psychological tension in him.

What had caused the haemorrhage, he said, was a swelling in the blood vessel, which finally ruptured, with the blood rushing into the ventricle. Dr Sheel said nothing could be said of the Congress leader's recovery and at least a week would be required to show any improvement.

Prasada collapsed and fell unconscious in his house around midnight and was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital at 6.50 am in deep coma, from where he was shifted to Apollo Hospital a little later. He was not being allowed any visitors, hospital sources said. It is believed that the Congress party will be meeting his hospitalisation expenses.
