Minister Handoo, votary of J&K autonomy, dies at 74

Jammu & Kashmir Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs P L Handoo died in New Delhi on Tuesday morning following a prolonged illness.

The 74-year-old senior politician of the National Conference leaves behind his wife, three daughters and two sons.

Handoo died at 0600 IST at the Ganga Ram Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.

The veteran, who had also served as law minister in the government of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, was one of the co-authors of the state's plan for greater autonomy.

His body will be flown to Jammu on Tuesday afternoon for the last rites.
