Congress, TMC to evolve

After a meeting with TMC President G K Moopanar along with All-India Congress Committee General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mukherjee told reporters that the discussion was useful and they decided to work together.

Though the Congress and TMC will work together, there will not be any collective bargaining in the seat-sharing talks with the AIADMK, he said.

Mukherjee said he would hold talks with AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha later in the day, during which issues like the PMK's entry into the AIADMK front and Pondicherry assembly polls will be taken up.

The Congress leader, who has held a round of discussions with Jayalalitha on January 20, admitted that the electoral scene in Tamil Nadu has changed after the PMK's entry into the AIADMK-led front.

''I hope the discussions will be smooth,'' he said.

On whether the DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's offer of 40 seats to TMC in the elections would pose any serious problem in the working together of the Congress and TMC, Mukherjee said, ''I do not think so.''

Later, Mukherjee and Azad held discussions with state Congress leaders to ascertain their views on the issue of an alliance.
