More quakes rock Gujarat

A correspondent in Ahmedabad

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale shook Kutch, in Gujarat, Monday morning.

Meteorological Department sources said in New Delhi that the quake, which struck at 0800 hours IST, epicentred 30 km north-northeast of Bhachau.

The Meteorological Department in Ahmedabad, however, said the quake occurred at 07:41 hours IST.

It said the moderate shock was preceded by three mild tremors of 3.0 magnitude.

The state also recorded nine mild intensity tremors with a maximum magnitude of 3.9 on Sunday.

An MD spokesman told rediff.com that at 1354 hours, another quake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, with its epicentre 30 km northwest of Bachchau, was reported. No casualties were immediately reported.

The quake was also felt at quake-ravaged Bhuj, the MET office said.

The quake, described as "moderate", was felt at 1354 hours at the epicentre 23.6 degrees north latitude and 70 degrees east longitude, the MET office said.
