ED puts off Shah's interrogation: PTI

After questioning the incarcerated film financier Bharat Shah for five days, for involvement in alleged hawala deals, the Enforcement Directorate has put off plans to interrogate him further, at least for the time-being.

Producing Shah before a special court on Wednesday evening, ED officers A K Mahajan and C Vijay Kumar said they had interrogated Shah that day and on February 7, 8, 9 and 13.

They informed designated judge A P Bhangale that the ED had no plans to question him any more, at least for the time-being.

"If the ED decides to grill him further, it will approach the court once again with a fresh plea," the officers said.

ED counsel Arun Gupte told PTI that as Shah was evasive and did not co-operate with the investigating agency, the probe was time-consuming.

Shah has been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act for an alleged nexus with Karachi-based gangster Chhota Shakeel to target film personalities for personal gains.

He is lodged in Thane jail.

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke film producer Naseem Rizvi has also been arrested for his alleged links with Shakeel.

Shah claims to have financed this film for Rs 120 million, while the police say that it was financed by the underworld.

Shah is also facing allegations of sending Rs 15 lakh to Chhota Shakeel by hawala through a contact in Dubai. The ED is probing this aspect too.

Shah, Rizvi and his assistant Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh have been remanded to custody till February 28.
