Catholic priest shot dead in Imphal: PTI

A Catholic priest was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in a school campus in Imphal on Friday, official sources said.

Two gunmen walked into a Catholic school at Kanchipur and gunned down Fr Tommy Manjuli. The priest, who received bullet injuries died on way to the hospital, the sources said.

This was the second incident in the past two months in which a Catholic priest was shot dead in Manipur by unidentified gunmen.

A combing operation has been launched in the area to nab the gunmen, the sources said.

On December 3 last, gunmen had shot dead Fr Jacob Chittinapally after kidnapping him from the St Joseph's school campus at Sugnu in Thoubal district.

School sources had earlier stated that an underground organisation had demanded payment of Rs 50,000 from the school authorities.
