Govt to re-promulgate POTO: Mahajan

The government will soon re-promulgate the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO), which is expiring in December end.

An indication to this effect was given by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan while talking to reporters soon after the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die after a month-long winter session.

''I understand that all the three ordinances will be re-promulgated by the government,'' he said.

The two other ordinances are granting of IIT status to the institute of technology at Roorkee (in Uttaranchal) and providing enhanced punishment and fine for illegal entry into the country by foreigners.

The bills replacing the ordinances could not be taken up in the winter session.
