PWG and MCC banned under POTO

The People's War Group and Maoist Communist Centre have been banned under the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance.

The outfits and all their formations and front organisations have been declared as "terrorist organisations" under the provisions of Clause (A) of Sub-section 2 of Section 18 of POTO "with immediate effect", an official release said on Wednesday.

Already 23 extremist outfits, including the Students Islamic Movement of India, Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and the Hizbul Mujahideen have been banned and declared as terrorist organisations.

The action against PWG comes in the wake of increased attacks by the Naxalites in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
