Doc summoned to 'explain'
Shah's birthday bash

A special court on Friday summoned a doctor of Lilavati Hospital to appear in person on September 12 to explain under what circumstances film financier Bharat Shah was allowed to celebrate his birthday on August 5 in the hospital canteen.

Shah, who is in judicial custody and is facing charges of using slush funds to finance films, is undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital for a heart ailment.

The court has also sought to know from the doctor how long would Shah be required to take treatment at the hospital.

In a related development, co-accused and film producers Nasim Rizvi and Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh were produced before the court on Friday and were remanded to judicial custody till September 12.
