Abdullah to visit Saudi Arabia to
review Haj arrangements

Mridula Krishna in Dubai

Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah will visit Saudi Arabia from Tuesday to review arrangements for Indian Haj pilgrims.

The minister will meet Iyad Madani, the Saudi minister of Haj, for discussions on Wednesday and undertake a comprehensive review of arrangements being made for Indian pilgrims.

Talmiz Ahmad, the Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told IANS from Riyadh that Abdullah would visit Makkah and Madinah. The minister will also visit the Haj terminal.

Ahmed said improved facilities would be offered to Indian pilgrims who are expected to number around 120,000.

Last week, a new building housing the Indian Haj Mission in Makkah was opened by Ahmad. The centrally located building houses a 15-bed hospital and clinics for men and women.

Abdullah's visit follows the January visit of External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh to Saudi Arabia.
