Tansi case hearing posted for Aug 27

N Sathiya Moorthy in Madras

The Madras High Court on Tuesday adjourned till August 27 the hearing of the appeal filed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa against her conviction in the TANSI land deal case.

Jayalalithaa needs to be acquitted in the Tansi case before she can contest (and win) a by-election to continue in office beyond the November 13 deadline.

Rejecting the four-week time period sought by the court-appointed Special Public Prosecutor K A Venkatapathy to prepare his case, Justice R Balasubramaniam granted two weeks' time instead.

He posted the case along with the 'Kodai hotel case', another case in which Jayalalithaa has been convicted by the trial court.
