Floods in Himachal claim 18 lives

The Himachal Pradesh government has asked the Centre for Rs 119.3 million from the National Calamity Contingency Fund following the recent floods.

At least 18 persons lost their lives, 168 heads of cattle perished and properties worth Rs 256.3 million were destroyed in the floods, official sources said.

The Binwa, Baner and Gaj hydel projects were also affected by the floods and many villages in Baijnath and Kullu districts suffered extensive damages.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and several cabinet colleagues visited the flood-affected areas of Baijnath and announced a relief of Rs 50 million.
