I am still a chief ministerial candidate: Jaya

All India Anna DMK chief Jayalalitha, whose nomination papers from four constituencies in Tamil Nadu were rejected last week, on Monday said she continued to be her party's chief ministerial candidate because her people "will not accept anyone else."

"Of course, the people will not accept anyone else. My party cadres will not accept anyone else," Jayalalitha told Star News when asked if she saw herself as the chief ministerial candidate of the AIADMK-led front.

Asked whether she was disappointed at her nomination papers being rejected from Krishnagiri, Andipatti, Bhuvanagiri and Pudukottai assembly segments, she said: "No, not really. It doesn't matter. Earlier I would have contested in one or two constituencies, today I am contesting in all 234 constituencies."

Jayalalitha's papers were rejected at Krishnagiri and Andipatti on the ground that she had been convicted in the TANSI land deal cases and awarded jail terms of three years and two years, which effectively barred her from contesting under the Representation of the People Act.
