Leave travel sop suspended
for defence forces

The government has suspended leave travel concessions for all armed forces personnel and their families for two years, with immediate effect.

A government order said personnel who had less than two years left for retirement would be exempted from the freeze.

However, personnel posted in field areas, including borders, counter-insurgency and Line of Control would continue to get home town LTC every year.

The order follows Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha's Budget announcement, freezing LTC for government employees for two years to effect expenditure control.
