Court to frame charges in
Gulshan case on April 20

Abdul Rauf Daud Merchant, the alleged killer of cassette king Gulshan Kumar, was on Monday produced before a sessions court in Bombay which adjourned the case to April 20 when charges would be framed against the accused.

Rauf has been remanded to judicial custody by Additional Sessions Judge M L Tahilyani.

Charges against nineteen accused, including Ramesh Taurani, managing director of TIPS Cassettes Industries Pvt Ltd, will be filed on April 20.

Gulshan Kumar was shot dead on August 12, 1997 outside a temple in Bombay. The police had identified the three shooters as Mohammed Rauf alias Raja, Anil Sharma (dead) and Abdul Rauf Daud Merchant.

Merchant was arrested in January this year and has been in custody since. On May 19, police filed additional chargesheet against him.

Merchant, a sharp shooter of Chhota Shakeel gang, has disclosed names and hideouts of his associates. He has also admitted that he visited Dubai to participate in a meeting where the plan to kill Gulshan Kumar was finalised.
