Parents, in-laws fight over singer's body

E-Mail this report to a friend

The body of famous pop singer Nazia Hasan, who died in London of cancer more than two weeks ago, has not been released from a north London hospital as her parents and in-laws have both made claims of being her legal heirs.

Nazia, who came into prominence with her famous song Aap jaisa koi... in India, has left behind a son.

Though the singer had sought a divorce in a London court shortly before her death, her husband has filed for the boy's custody.

Nazia was heavily insured and unless the court decides who her legal heirs are, the body is not likely to be released.

According to Nazia's father, the body will be brought to Pakistan for burial.

Few weeks before her death, Nazia had complained of maltreatment by her husband and said his behaviour was worse than the attack of cancer with which she was suffering.
