Jaswant's Saudi trip postponed indefinitely

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, who was scheduled to pay a three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia from October 17, has postponed his visit indefinitely, official sources in New Delhi said.

No reason was assigned for the postponement of the visit, which was aimed to give impetus to bilateral relations.

Earlier, while announcing the trip, a foreign ministry official had said Singh would express India's concern about energy security to the Saudi establishment.

"India is facing the challenge of rising oil prices. The need for stability in international oil prices will be stressed upon during bilateral discussions," he had said.

Saudi Arabia is the largest supplier of crude oil and petroleum products to India.

The two sides were expected to sign some bilateral agreements during the trip, the ministry official had said.
