Syed Firdaus Ashraf at Breach Candy hospital

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's progress is "satisfactory," Dr Chitaranjan S Ranawat and Dr Farokh Udwadia told the media on Wednesday afternoon.

"His vital signs are stable," the doctors, who operated on Vajpayee on Tuesday morning, said.

"The pain in his operated knee is significantly less and well tolerated by him," they said, adding that the prime minister had liquids since Wednesday morning.

"He was made to stand and sit with assistance on a chair for a short period of time," they concluded.
