Hizbul Mujahideen claims responsibility
for landmine blast in J&K

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - The Hizbul Mujahideen on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the landmine attack which killed three soldiers on the very first day of the government-initiated ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir.

"A blast was carried out by our mujahideen. We attacked an armoured vehicle and it was blown apart by the blast," Hizbul spokesman Salim Hashmi said.

"All the occupants were killed or seriously wounded but we don't know how many casualties there were at this stage," he added.

The Hizb has rejected the Centre's unilateral ceasefire during the holy month of Ramzan starting Tuesday, saying peace is impossible until New Delhi agrees to talk to the Kashmiris and Pakistan.

"We are determined to continue our operations," Hashmi said.

Another spokesman said, "Inshaallah (God willing), why not?" when asked if there would be more attacks during Ramzan.
