Sonia routs Prasada in Cong polls

Josy Joseph in New Delhi

Sonia Gandhi comfortably won the Congress presidential elections. She bagged 7,448 votes whereas her rival Jitendra Prasada got only 94.

This was announced by the party Central Election Authority chief Ram Niwas Mirdha at the All India Congress Committee headquarters at 24, Akbar Road in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Jubiliant Sonia supporters cheered as the news broke. Prasada's supporters were not to be seen at the headquarters as there were indications that he would lose the elections.

Prasada stayed at his heavy guarded house.

Soon after her victory, Sonia came to the Congress headquarters to greet party workers. Also, present were prominent Sonia supporters, Shiela Dixit, Delhi chief minister, Madhavrao Scindia, Kamal Nath and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
