Fernandes in Vietnam to strengthen ties: AFP

E-Mail this report to a friend

Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes met with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Van Tra in Hanoi on Monday to strengthen military ties, a foreign ministry official said.

Fernandes went into talks with Vietnamese Defence Minister Pham Van Tra after arriving in Hanoi on Sunday on a five-day official visit, the official said, but provided no further information.

Fernandes was due to meet with Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien on Monday and President Tran Duc Luong on Tuesday before departing for Ho Chi Minh City.

In recent years, the two countries have expanded their traditional cooperative relations in economic development and regional security.

However, bilateral trade recently reached just 150 million dollars.
