Fiji-Indians are safe: Jaswant

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Union government has ensured all security measures for the safety of Indians in Fiji, according to External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh.

Singh was responding to a letter written to him by Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel on the fate of the Gujaratis residing in the Pacific island-nation.

In his reply, Singh said a secretary of his ministry had visited Fiji after the declaration of martial law and ascertained the fate of the Fiji-Indians.

He said efforts were being made to re-establish democracy in Fiji with the co-operation of the international community and international institutions like the Commonwealth.
