My husband was not against Sonia: Rama Pilot

Rama Pilot, widow of Rajesh Pilot, Monday said every move her husband made in his political career was intended at strengthening the Congress and not dividing it.

Some people in the party had thought he was against Congress president Sonia Gandhi but this was not true, the grief stricken legislator told party workers at her residence.

She said Pilot always thought of the welfare of the party which was why he raised issues that he thought were against the Congress. As a staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi, he could never have thought of leaving the Congress, she said.

Regarding demands from his followers that he should be given a fitting memorial, she said her family would not demand even an inch from the government or the party. It was for the government to decide that issue, she added. ''If the party has some love for him it will give him a suitable resting place,'' she said.

She said there were still some aspirations of her husband that remained unfulfilled. She and her son, Sachin, would endeavour to complete these tasks, to help the poor and downtrodden of the country.
