Brahmaputra and its tributaries continue rising

E-Mail this report to a friend

The flood situation in Assam remained grim today with fresh inundation of many areas in Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts, even as the death toll mounted to 14, official sources said.

In Dhemaji, where floods have been playing havoc for over two months now, road and rail communications remained disrupted with flood waters flowing over national highways and railway tracks.

The situation in Sonitpur district took a turn for the worse today with river Jiabhoroli changing its course at Greater Panchali near Tezpur.

Road connections with Tezpur and Tezpur Central University have been broken with both sides of a wooden bridge damaged by flood waters.

The situation in most of the districts of Upper Assam too is causing concern with the Brahmaputra and its major tributaries continuing to rise alarmingly.

In Dibrugarh district, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level.

The floods have affected 9.11 lakh people in fifteen districts of the state and damaged a crop area of 55,000 hectares.
