12 killed in Naxalite attacks in Bihar

E-Mail this report to a friend

Twelve persons, including 11 paramilitary personnel, were killed in landmine blasts in Kaimur and Hazaribagh districts of south-central Bihar today.

Eight personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force and one polling magistrate were killed in an explosion near Jharia village of Adhaura block in the extremist-dominated Kaimur district when they were taking ballot boxes to the polling stations in the wee hours today.

Three Border Security Force personnel were killed in another explosion at Chandwa in Hazaribagh district.

Landmine blasts had rocked Hazaribagh in the 1999 general election as well, but Kaimur had remained incident-free. Both districts have large hill tracts and forests where the Naxalites rule the roost.

Further details were not immediately forthcoming with the state director general of police's control room refusing to give much information.
