E-Mail this report to a friend

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

At least three people were killed and four others injured when a bomb exploded in the Calcutta-bound Sealdah Express at Vijaypur, 30 kms from Jammu late this evening.

A senior police officer said the bomb, planted in the air-conditioned coach, exploded as the train was coming into Vijaypur. Sources said the coach was extensively damaged.

Though three unidentified people have been confirmed dead, more casualties are feared.

The four injured persons were taken to Jammu for treatment.

Train traffic is being restored to normal, the sources said.

Security had been increased at Jammu Railway station after an explosion in a passenger train last December. Passengers were frisked and baggage screened.

After what appears to be a serious lapse now, the security would to further tightened, the sources said.
