HC extends stay in Harin Pathak's case

The Gujarat High Court, which had earlier this month stayed proceedings against former Union minister Harin Pathak, former Gujarat health minister Ashok Bhatt and seven others accused of murder of a police constable in Ahmedabad during the anti-reservation stir of 1985, has extended the stay.

Staying the proceedings against the accused, whom a sessions court recently had charged with murdering a constable Laxmansinh in Raipur locality, Justice A K Trivedi also posted the hearing in a miscellaneous criminal application filed by them to January 10.

The court had earlier fixed December 26 as the final date for hearing.

The accused had challenged the complaint and proceedings filed under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code submitting that proper procedure was not followed by the police.
