Bharat Shah moves special court

In a significant development, Bharat Shah, financier of the controversial film Chori Chori Chupke Chupe Tuesday filed his appearance before a special court which is hearing the case involving producer Nazeem Hasan Rizvi for his alleged links with the underworld.

Shah filed a vakalatnama of his lawyers R M Aziz and Girish Kulkarni on behalf of his firm Mega Bollywood Pvt Ltd but surprisingly has not staked any claim or raised objection to the negatives of the film seized by the police on December 20.

The designated judge A P Bhangale has ordered Shah to file written objections or stake his claim at the earliest if he so desired. The case is being tried under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.

He has also ordered the prosecution to supply Shah a copy of the application made by police on the seizure of the film's negatives at Film City in suburban Goregaon.

On December 21, police produced before the court seized negative prints of Rizvi's film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke following which the judge directed that a public notice be issued in English and Marathi newspapers to invite within 15 days claims if any to the seized property.

The court had invited claims to the seized prints of the film to pass orders regarding custody and/or production of the property on the ground that the accused has beneficial interest therein.
