11 gunned down in Assam: PTI

Striking for the second time in 24 hours, National Democratic Front of Bodoland members gunned down 11 persons -- 10 Bhutan nationals and one of Nepali origin - and wounded another, all woollen garment sellers, in two incidents in Assam's Barpeta and Darrang districts on Thursday night, according to official sources.

A group of heavily armed ultras of the banned outfit shot dead nine Bhutanese and the Nepali, who were selling woollens, seven kilometres from the Bhutan border in Barpeta district, the sources said.

The militants fled immediately afterwards, they said.

In a second incident the same night, the NDFB ultras fired at a group of Bhutanese woollen sellers, killing one of them and seriously injuring another in neighbouring Darrang district, the sources said.

On December 20 the NDFB ultras shot dead two Bhutanese bus passengers and injured 16 in Kokrajhar district and set ablaze two vehicles of the Bhutan government in Bongaigaon district.
