2 soldiers killed as militants
storm army camp

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Two soldiers were killed and three others injured when militants stormed into an army camp at Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu region during the wee hours of Saturday.

Police sources said the militants hurled grenades and opened heavy fire from automatic weapons on the troops inside the camp, killing two soldiers on the spot. The troops also retaliated. However, taking advantage of the darkness, the militants managed to escape.

The three soldiers who were seriously wounded in the attack have been shifted to hospital.

In another incident, militants rained rockets on an army camp at Bandipore in north Kashmir on Friday night. While the police said no one was injured, four adjoining houses were damaged in the attack.
