Congress will block Constitution change: SoniaThe Congress will not allow any change in the Indian Constitution which the Vajapyee government is planning to make in the name of reviewing the statute, party president Sonia Gandhi said today. Speaking at a Dalit rally, organised in New Delhi to mark the 109th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedakar, the architect of the Constitution, Gandhi said the constitutional review was being undertaken with a 'mal-intention' of depriving the downtrodden of their due rights and to manipulate the statute in favour of the privileged. She said the BJP-led government wanted to effect some constitutional changes to secure electoral gains. The Congress will act as a custodian of the Constitution that had ensured not only equal rights but also a share in power to the Dalits, she added. UNI
