Govt ready for debate on Orissa storm

E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today said the entire world was concerned at the devastation caused by the super cyclone in Orissa.

''It is but natural that there should be a demand for discussing the issue. Therefore, the government is willing for a debate. But it is up to the chair to decide when to allow such a discussion,'' he added.

Vajpayee was intervening briefly in the Lok Sabha when the Opposition members wanted that their motion to suspend question hour to facilitate a discussion on the Orissa cyclone be taken up.

Speaker G M C Balayogi ruled that he had disallowed their adjournment motions on the subject as it was decided at a meeting of leaders of various parties that the discussion be taken up at 1400 hours after the lunch recess.
