Anti-Pope yatra ends in Delhi

The Goa-Delhi yatra taken out by the Sanskriti Raksha Manch, an affiliate of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, quietly entered the capital today and dispersed after holding a public meeting decrying conversions by Christian missionaries.

The yatra started from Goa two weeks ago, ahead of the November 5 to 8 visit of the head of the Catholic Church Pope John Paul-II.

While the Madhya Pradesh government did not allow the yatra to pass through the state apprehending breach of law and order, the Delhi government did not make any attempt to prevent its entry into the capital.

However, security personnel were present in large numbers as the 50-odd yatris entered the capital from Faridabad in Haryana this morning. At a public meeting at Karol Bagh in central Delhi later in the day, the speakers launched a strong attack on Christian missionaries for carrying out forced conversions.
