Kesri's car attacked at CWC meet venue

E-Mail this report to a friend

Hundreds of Congress workers attacked former party president Sitaram Kesri's car at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi yesterday.

They thought he was the brain behind the rebellion against Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

About 300 partymen banged their fists on Kesri's car as he arrived for the Congress Working Committee meeting yesterday. A handful of Kesri's supporters and Seva Dal workers who threw in a cordon around the car could not stop the mob from attacking the car inflicting a sharp dent on the left side.

They shouted slogans against him as his confidant Tariq Anwar was one of the three signatories of the letter sent to the party president urging her not to project herself as the prime ministerial candidate.

CWC member Ambika Soni was heard shouting at the partymen for bringing discredit to the party.

The former party president's departure from the venue was smooth as the crowds had been cleared by then. Party treasurer Ahmed Patel was with Kesri.
