Advani to review Kargil situation

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit this morning.

He was received by Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and senior officials.

After a brief halt, Advani left for Kargil for an assessment of the situation. He is scheduled to meet senior army officers.

He would also meet Indian soldiers at Kargil. At Sanku, he would meet refugees who fled have Kargil following the operations against Pakistani forces.

On his return to Srinagar, Advani would review the situation in Jammu and Kashmir with Dr Abdullah and senior state officers.
